Spooky improv Halloween!!

Happy Halloween! Okay, it's a day late, but I was enjoying the day. We had a hell of a Halloween class Wednesday night. Everyone came in costumes—some real, some virtual, and some with both! We had so much fun playing improv games with a scary Halloween twist. I didn’t get any pictures from the class; we were having so much fun I forgot. But here are a couple of pictures of the virtual costumes I wore. I couldn't decide, so I kept switching costumes from game to game. Look like fun? Then sign up for a class. We have fun like this every week.

Heres a Zoom AI summary of the fun we had.

Quick recap

Gary led a series of Halloween-themed games and role-playing exercises, including a car and candy categorization game, a hitchhiking game, and an improv acting exercise featuring various Halloween characters. The games were designed to encourage creativity, character development, and improvisation skills among the participants. The conversation ended with a game where participants created characters and responded to Gary's questions as if they were reporting on a zombie apocalypse.

Summary

Halloween-Themed Car and Candy Game

Gary led a Halloween-themed game, which involved categorizing types of cars and candy names. The game was played in a non-traditional manner, with each participant taking turns listing a specific type of car or candy. The game was designed to lead to dramatic death scenes, with the first person to stumble being subject to a dramatic death scene. The game was played twice, with the second round involving Halloween costumes. The game was well-received, with participants enjoying the creative and spooky nature of the game.

Halloween-Themed Hitchhiking Role-Playing Game

In the meeting, Gary led a Halloween-themed game where participants took on the roles of hitchhikers and drivers, with each character having a unique personality or quirk. The game involved Angel Salazar driving, Helena as the passenger, and Tara as the hitchhiker. The hitchhiker's character was to be Halloween-themed, and the group had to adjust their dialogue and actions accordingly. The game was played multiple times with different participants, and Gary provided feedback and suggestions for improvement. The group also played another game involving hitchhiking, with Angel Canada driving, Tara as the passenger, and Helena as the hitchhiker. The game was well-received, with the group adjusting their dialogue and actions to fit the characters and setting.

Virtual Game Character Assignments

In the meeting, Gary and Angel discussed their costumes and characters for a virtual game. They decided to skip the usual 3 lines and instead play a scary game. They also considered doing an animal game, but decided to focus on character games instead. Angel and Tara were assigned to play in a fake haunted house setting, while Helena was assigned to play as Captain Hook. The team agreed to use their virtual disguises to enhance their characters.

Acting Game for Halloween Fun

In the meeting, Gary, Helena, Angel Salazar, and Tara played a game where they had to act out a scene with a character and a location. The characters were chosen randomly, and the location was the worst place to go trick or treating. The characters had to embody the characteristics of their assigned animals, even though they were not literally those animals. The game was a fun way to practice acting and character development. Gary also suggested playing more Halloween games in the future.

Frustration, Nostalgia, and Role-Playing Game

Tara expressed her frustration about the baby's constant feeding and the soreness it caused. Angel reminisced about their past together, mentioning their shared love for baking and spending time at the farm. Gary facilitated the conversation, occasionally interjecting with humorous remarks. Helena and Angel chose avatars for their game, with Angel opting for a lion and Helena for a bear. The group then began a role-playing game, with Angel and Helena embodying the characteristics of their chosen animals. The game involved a dungeon, with Angel's lion character attempting to help Helena's bear character escape.

Improv Acting Exercise: Halloween Characters

Gary leads a Halloween-themed improv acting exercise where Helena plays a ghost, Angel Canada plays a witch, Angel San Diego plays a werewolf, and Tara plays a vampire on a blind date with Gary. The actors stay committed to their characters, with Gary reacting to their portrayals. The exercise allows the actors to practice listening and responding to prompts while staying in character. Gary praises their performances, noting how they picked up on his cues and ran with them in an entertaining way.

Zombie Apocalypse Role Play Game

In the meeting, Gary led a game where he interviewed the participants about their experiences during a zombie apocalypse. The participants were asked to create characters and respond to Gary's questions as if they were reporting on the situation. The characters included a survivalist, a normal person scared to death, and an influencer. The game was well-received, with participants enjoying the unexpected twists and turns. Gary expressed his appreciation for the creativity and humor shown by the participants. The conversation ended with Gary promising to send a summary of the game to those who were interested.
